Catawba Island State Park
Catawba Island is a not really an island as its name implies but the Mr. & Mrs. love coming to Catawba Island State Park.
Here they will spend time watching the sunset and we tag-a-long so we can watch the shorebirds and waterfowl.
Catawba Island State Park is a ten-acre public recreation area normally offering access to Lake Erie.
The boat launch at Catawba Island State Park needed extensive repairs this year so the Ohio Department of Natural Resources shut down the ramps and some dedicated workers built a cofferdam in order to replace the concrete ramps.
Catawba State Park pier on the northwest corner of Catawba Island remained opened which means angler's continue to walk a short distance from the parking lot and drop their line. The Mr. & Mrs say that smallmouth bass, white bass, channel catfish, yellow perch, and walleye are often caught utilizing a valid Ohio fishing license.
In addition to a well-used fishing pier, Catawba Island State Park boasts a 400-foot smooth cobble beach which stretches northwest from the fishing pier. Swimming is permitted during daylight hours and you must swim at your own risk. You can see the beach here in front of the Mr. and Buddy.
Pets are however not allowed on this beach but that is ok as we find the grass under the picnic table more comfortable anyway.
If you don't find us on the grass you will likely find us near the water.
It's not difficult to recognize why Lake Erie has become a preferred spot for pleasure boat owners.
