Christmas Tree Safety
It may seem questionable, but there are several ways to keep Christmas trees, presents, and your dog’s safe at Christmas
Fake It
Real Christmas trees can be extremely dangerous. The branches and needles irritate a pet’s muzzle and the chemicals used for tree preservation may be poisonous to your pet, so, opt for an artificial tree.
Electrical Cords
Pets can get tangled up in the wires, and if they are chewers they risk electrical shock. So, if you must put lights on your tree, leave the bottom branches bare and secure the cords with cord clips to keep them out of the pets reach.
Decoration Tips
Above is the bulbs our cockapoos knocked off the tree before we realized the importance of keeping breakable objects higher up on the tree.
Unplug all the lights when you leave home so pets are not tempted by shiny lights.
Owners know pets are exploring when things are decorated with bells. Don't confuse this with the bells they ring when they have to go potty
Christmas Tree Stand and Gift Placement
Opt for a tree on a taller stand and place Christmas gifts on a table so that nothing sits directly on the floor.
No Chew Christmas
To keep your dog from chewing or eating something they shouldn’t, don’t put edible ornaments ( popcorn, candy canes, gingerbread men) on the tree.
