Marblehead Lighthouse State Park

Marblehead Lighthouse in Marblehead, Ohio is one of our favorite Lighthouses and is one of Lake Erie's best-known and most-photographed landmarks.

Marblehead is the oldest lighthouse in continuous operation on the Great Lakes and the first tower we ever climbed.

The tower boasts the first female lighthouse keeper in the U.S. and the lighthouse has a rare three-and-a-half order Fresnel lens and an early 1900s functional iron staircase with 77 steps, which is still in use.

The dogs often sit at the picnic table with my husband and sometimes they hang out at the base of the lighthouse with me.

The 1880 on-site light keeper’s house is a museum staffed by historical society volunteers.

The newest addition to the park is another museum. It's a replica of the U.S. Life Saving Station that was built in 1876. I've not been inside but am told it houses a Coast Guard surfboat from 1931, including the rail system used to launch boats from that period.

The land surrounding the lighthouse and Life Saving Station offers excellent views of Lake Erie, Sandusky Bay, Kelleys Island, and South Bass Island and beyond.

My husband likes to sit on the rocks along the water. The dogs enjoy this too,

On a clear day, you can see Cedar Point Amusement Park behind us

The lighthouse rests on the beautiful Marblehead Peninsula at 110 Lighthouse Drive, Marblehead, Ohio 43440.

Tours of the Marblehead Lighthouse and on-site Keeper’s House Museum are held during the afternoon, six days a week from June to August.
