Hueston Woods State Park

There are many places throughout Ohio that we like to escape to and Hueston Woods State Park is one of them.

While some people love to sit back and relax at the lodge or swim in the pools, we are outside hiking, fishing, and bird watching in the park. Hueston Woods also provides an archery range, bridal path, 18-hole golf, 36-hole disk golf and miniature golf course, horseshoe pits, marina with boat rental,  paintball field, playground, target practice area, basketball, tennis and volleyball court, and a Nature Center we love.

If you haven't hiked Cedar Falls trail it is worth a visit. There are photogenic layered rock formations and the area is great for fossil hunting as Brachiopod,  trilobites and horned coral are commonly found here.

If you're not up for a hike, there are many places adjacent the road that you can stop and enjoy the scenic beauty like the covered bridge which is over the four-mile creek or this natural location shown above that is a designated picnic area along the creek.

While at the park, our dogs always appreciate a run in the dog park.

Later, we make our way over to the  625-acre Acton Lake. Anglers here can expect to find largemouth bass, bluegills, bullheads, carp, white crappie,  channel catfish, muskie and tiger muskellunge

Acton Lake has a designated pet swim area.  Monroe typically stays on the beach with me while Motley and Buddy go off with the Mr. to play in the water.

You can see in this photo Buddy found a stick.

Combing the beach and picking up sticks is another favorite thing for all the dogs to do. You can find a video here.

If you are interested in staying at the park with dogs, there are pet-friendly cabins and each cabin has its own charcoal grill, fire pit ring, and picnic tablePets, however, are not permitted in any rooms or cabins not designated "pet-friendly."

In accordance with the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1991, assistance dogs for visually, hearing impaired or orthopedically challenged are permitted.
