Cockapoo: Dog Trimming

Motley spends a lot of time outside with us on the porch and he has been in the pool more than a few times this month.

Motley enjoys bath time and he is the most difficult of our 4 dogs to trim at home. This week Motley will be getting a much-needed trim.

We'll start with a good bath and concentrate on the muzzle. I typically like to use a medicated shampoo that is soap-free and has a good lather. I like that it removes all traced of dirt and leaves the dogs with a clean fresh scent.

We rinse the coat thoroughly to remove residue and then we apply conditioner and follow the same process. We use  Avo'Derm conditioner as it has avocado oil and that helps with the shine. We find this conditioner also helps prevent tangles, leaving their coats healthy.

Over the years we have tried about 5 different brands of clippers and we keep coming back to Andis. Currently, we are using the Andis 2 speed.  The blade is detachable and it does not heat up nearly as quick or as our old set. However, I recommend a cooling spray or extra blades because these still do get hot after being used awhile. I like that they are quieter and this unit has a longer cord which makes reaching the underside of our cockapoos easier.
