Lucky in his wheelchair
Occasionally, we receive emails asking if Lucky is still with us. He is!
If you are new to this blog our youngest cockapoo, Lucky, is no longer able to walk. We captured this short video of him playing in the yard this evening.
In December 2020, Lucky was diagnosed with a neurological issue. Below is an image of him at the veterinarian's hospital in December 2020
We were given 4 medications and told if Lucky needed to go anywhere we would need to carry him. Later we learned his issue is likely Degenerative myelopathy ( DM) and that we could enroll him in therapy.
Lucky could not walk between December 2020 to June 2021. After months of at-home therapy, in June 2021, he started walking and did so until the end of November 2021. He has not walked any since December 2021.
Lucky's appetite has remained good and he eats the same amount of food as our other 3 cockapoos. He does not appear to be in any pain but has lost muscle mass in his hind legs and hind end.
Lucky is able to use a wheelchair in the house as well as outside. But if we don't put him in the wheelchair he will scoot himself around the house.
Lucky had been able to let us know when he wanted to go outside but in the past month things changed and he is experiencing some urinary incontinence so we've been using disposable belly wraps or diapers and have now invested in some washable ones.
