Bindi's Itch
Bindi has been struggling with itching. At first, we thought her reaction might be due to the stress of having a new puppy, Coco, in the house—after all, a big change like that can be overwhelming. But as the days passed, Bindi started pulling out some of her own hair.
It’s incredibly hard to watch your dog in discomfort, especially when she can’t tell you what’s wrong. We tried soothing oatmeal baths, hoping to give her some relief. Then Bindi began losing hair around her eyes, and we noticed her paw pad had become swollen. That was the moment we knew we needed help. The vet in our community is often not available do to being booked full. So we called the veterinary hospital, and they were able to work her in to see a veterinarian.
Walking into the clinic with her, we were filled with worry. When you love a dog, every sign of pain feels personal. After a thorough exam and diagnostic testing, the veterinarian reassured us that everything appears treatable. Hearing that lifted a weight off our hearts.
The veterinarian said Bindi weighs 18.4 pounds and had no fever, which was an important sign that nothing serious or systemic was going on. The vet also wasn’t overly concerned about the swollen paw pad, explaining that it was likely just another symptom of her underlying irritation rather than an infection or injury. Hearing all of this lifted a huge weight off our shoulders.
The likely cause of her discomfort is allergies—something that can be tricky and unpredictable, but hopefully manageable with the right care. Bindi was prescribed several medications to soothe her itching, calm the inflammation, and prevent any other issues.
When we brought Bindi home, she already seemed a bit more relaxed, almost as if she knew that we were working to help her feel better.
Now begins the process of identifying exactly what’s triggering her allergic reaction. It may take some time, but we’re committed to finding answers. With close observation and guidance from her vet, we’re hopeful that we’ll uncover the cause and help her return to her happy, comfortable self—full of the gentle joy and sweetness we adore.
